FPT Telecom Company, one of the major participants of the undersea Asia-America Gateway (AAG) cable system, said users in Vietnam will be able to access the international Internet services provided by Yahoo, Facebook and Google at a normal speed next week.
The company expected Internet connection will return to normal on July 30 when the AAG is fixed about two weeks after a fiber of this fiber optic cable system’s Vung Tau-Hong Kong line broke at a point around 18 kilometers off Vung Tau cable landing station and lies at 19 meters under sea level.
The operator of AAG said fixing the fiber to restore the cable system is in preparation. As scheduled, the first main welding point will be made at 3:00 p.m. on July 26 and all repair work will be completed at 11:00 p.m. on July 30 when Internet traffic of this cable system will be fully recovered.
In the past week, the cable system outage has hit international traffic for those who use website, email and video services in Vietnam as service providers had to switch to other back-up cable systems with congestion occurring sometimes. This is why Internet connection is slower than usual.
