By mid-March, the province’s total export turnover increased by 10% to US$112 million, seafood alone account for 96%.
The total export turnover in the first quarter is expected to hit US$150 million, a significant increase against previous years, according to Ca Mau Commerce and Industry Department.
The strong increase was attributed to high aquaculture and capture production. The total seafood production in the province hit 75,000MT, including 45,000MT of farmed products (up 17% year-on-year). Shrimp output reached 10,000MT, a 10% year-on-year increase. The export volume amounted to nearly 20,000MT.
There are 30 seafood companies in Ca Mau, one third of which are big exporters such as Minh Phu Corp, Quoc Viet Co., Ltd, Phu Cuong, and Camimex.
Despite the world economic crisis, the local enterprises are seeking new partners and expanding the markets for their products. Ca Mau seafood products are now shipped to 40 countries and territories in the world, most importantly the US, EU, Japan, China.
Ca Mau expects to earn US$1 billion in export turnover in 2012.
